Hawkins remains one of the longest serving Kappans in Squadron history, and his record stands him out as one of the best officers to serve in our ranks. After Wlodek's sudden resignation, Hawkins was thrust into command, but was unfortunate to preside over a period of severe adversity for the Squadron. Despite these tragic sequence of events, a great deal of credit must go to Hawkins for turning things around in the latter stages of his command. He pulled the Squadron back together and re-instilled a sense of pride, saving Kappa from potential deactivation. Hawkins eventually stepped down after six months in the hot seat and would remain an active Flight Member for a lengthy period before RL issues meant he was forced to transfer into the Reserves. After nearly a year-long absence, Hawkins returned to Kappa as a FM in October 2001, but had to leave towards the Reserves again in March 2002. (Algaron/Tempest) |
